The Professor And The Wizard
Have you ever felt stupid and incompetent because when it came to Internet Marketing you didn’t know whether to turn to the left or to the right?
If that is the case, stop beating yourself up. Even a high-flying University Professor experienced the same feelings of hopelessness.
The good news is that neither you nor the Professor is stupid or incompetent.
The even better news, is that there is a solution, and you don’t have to stumble around in darkness any longer.
Read on… (ESPECIALLY THE COMMENTS)
Mary is no stranger to complex information.
After all, she has earned a good living from processing complex subjects, and presenting the information in easily digestible chunks to her students. Mary is a University Professor.
Mary also has years of experience in personal development, career development, online education, business communication, seminar training. With her background as a seminar leader and communications specialist, she never expected to have any problems understanding Internet Marketing and related subjects. Mary is a high flyer.
But that wasn’t enough for her.
Beyond the Ivory Tower
Mary really wanted to make a difference, and to help others. She is a professor who has always been eager to share her varied and extensive range of skills with the thousands of people all over the world that need her expertise. All she needed was a medium that would put her in touch with these people.
The Internet was that medium.
Being the visionary that she is, Mary realised early on that the Internet had the potential to transform the business landscape on a grand and global scale. It is no surprise that she became an early adopter of the Internet.
She was one of the very first Professors to use the Internet as a medium for delivering lectures.
Smoke and Mirrors
When Mary decided to use the Internet as a medium to reach out beyond the world of academia she had a rude awakening.
She quickly realised that it was not enough to have a website. She was not going to make an impact on anyone’s life if nobody knew her website existed, or if the website had no visitors.
Welcome to the world of Internet Marketing and Search Engine Optimization (SEO)…
This professor, however, was not prepared for all the hype, misinformation, conflicting advice and information overload that is rife in Internet Marketing. Mary was determined to discover how Internet Marketing really worked, but the harder she studied… the more confused she became. Poor Mary didn’t know what to do, or who to believe.
Mary had knowledge at the highest level… had years of experience to back it up… she was ready to offer her services… she even had a website.
But the website had no traffic, and Mary had no clients, even though there were thousands of people on the Internet desperately seeking for someone just like her.
How could a University Professor struggle to understand something as supposedly simple as Internet Marketing?
How could someone who had succeeded at everything else she had done, fail as an Internet Marketer? Was the unimaginable about to happen?
The professor needed a miracle…
The Professor meets the Wizard
And then along came Oz – the Professor’s very own Wizard Of Oz.
She had heard that Oz was a clever writer, but Mary didn’t really need a clever writer who would bamboozle her. What she wanted was someone who could present the facts in a clear manner.
The Professor needed somene to put her out of her misery.
Not knowing what to expect, she invested in one of Oz’s highly acclaimed reports… and almost instantly the cobwebs were removed from her eyes.
The report shattered all the myths she had been led to believe by the gurus, and it proved beyond all doubt that Mary could attract targeted traffic to her website without having to get caught up in 1-way, 2-way, 3-way or even 7-way links.
A light bulb went off for Mary, and she promptly invested in another report from the Wizard of Oz… and then another and another. Before long she had read all of Oz’s reports.
And the result?
Happily ever after…
The Professor can now find a lucrative niche in less than 15 minutes… and she knows how to identify the keywords that will allow her to quickly get her website to the top of Google and other search engines.
This means that she knows how to find the people who need her services, and how to get these same people to visit her website.
The experts call this targeted traffic, and that is exactly what Mary needed all along, but she just couldn’t figure out what she needed to do to get targeted traffic.
Mary no longer gets embroiled in all the endless and needless debates… like the one on Duplicate Content. She knows when to use Duplicate Content, and when to avoid it. And if for some reason she can’t or doesn’t want to create content herself, she also knows where to get good quality content for nothing or next to nothing.
She even knows how to use that free (or almost free) content to earn lots of money if she wanted to.
To cut a long story short, Oz has helped Mary finally get to grips with the essentials of Internet Marketing, and made her stop running after every over-hyped Product Launch… hoping that it would turn out to be the magic potion to end all her problems.
The professor has already found her magician.
As a result, she is now able to focus on leveraging her expertise, and offering exceptional value to her clients, and no longer has to tear her hair out over Internet Marketing.
She discovered the truth and the truth set her free…
Free from the hype… free from the deceit… free from the misinformation, and free from the confusion.
The Wizard called Oz, not for the first time, had done his Magic!
A pattern emerging?
Surprisingly but rather unfortunately, Mary’s experience is not unique. For instance, Bary was seriously pissed off because he only discovered the Wizard after wasting thousands of dollars on the hype… on the deceit… and on the misinformation.
Are you still wasting your hard earned money?
Do you want to be set free?
Many others have experienced the Magic of Oz, and are happy to share their story. Do yourself a favour… and read these stories, because it is very likely that you will identify with a few of them.
Will you be the next to share your story?

Thanks OZ for your insightful posts. Looks like many of us have wasted some misplaced sweat and dollar equity on some over-rated sections of IM. So I guess on-page SEO it has to be then but any formula on keyword placement and density?

Hi Mon.
I really don’t sweat too much about keyword placement and density. I try to achieve a 1% density if possible, and to have the keywords in the first and last paragraphs. Other than that, I’m pretty relaxed about keyword placement and density.
Thanks for visiting.

Thus begins a glorious journey! My partner and I were on the verge of paying dearly for SEO services to be performed by one of a dozen “experts” that we know in our town. All this time that we’ve been wringing our hands over this very costly decision we had to make, I’ve been thinking (just this past weekend in fact) that there HAS to be a better/cheaper/faster way to market one’s business on the internet. Thanks to the information I have learned from SEOn Trial (which is surely just scratching the surface), I am ready to tackle the challenge of optimizing our website myself. A great big THANK YOU to the Wizard for enlightening the little people!

You are very welcome Bob.
Yes SEOn Trial just scratches the surface, but at least you now know enough not to throw hundreds of dollars away. How did you discover this site and my report, if I may ask?
They say Knowledge is Power, and it is so exciting to begin the journey of Personal Empowerment.

You have wasted my time – you promised a free report but I have to write some recommendation to get a chance to WIN a free report. This is misleading on TWO counts – one it is not free if you have to do something for it and two it is not even given! You might think this is great marketing and copywriting but it is pure dishonesty! I understand you don’t get anything for nothing – but with you it is you don’t get anything for something. You give the industry a bad name.

Hi Con,
You are definitely mistaken!
If you opted in to the subscribers list, you would have received an email asking you to confirm your subscription – after which the report is delivered to your inbox. Hundreds of free copies of the report have been sent out.
Did you subscribe? Did you confirm your subscription?
People are then invited to share the story of their Internet Marketing Experience, and get the chance to win free copies of ALL my reports. However, every subscriber (including yourself) is entitled to a FREE copy of SEOn Trial.
Anyway, I’ll be sending a copy to the email address you used for your comment.

Hey Oz,
Your post about the professor really summed up what I’ve gone through. Having been successful academically, with multiple degrees and skill sets, I thought I have the world of riches in my hands. And when I was introduced to internet marketing via a “Link Building” product with resale rights claiming how easy it is to sell this product and I get 100% commission, I thought everything is in the bag.
Lo and behold as I followed the material to the letter and didn’t even make a sale. Not getting results is something new to me, I excelled in most of everything I tried.
This disappointment only fueled my drive even more to my misfortune, as the world of internet marketing is composed of a few honest wizards and a whole lot of dishonest witches. My burning drive only got me from one hyped up product to the next at a faster rate than the normal person, and each product I tried only added to my desperation to find the next solution (which made me fall faster to the next sales page and product launch I see).
Without naming names, I purchased products about making money on adsense via micro niche sites, some misspelled title on website flipping, a membership on a popular war room, a tool for twitter domination named after a bird with supplementary make money on twitter guide, another complete IM tool (from keyword research to content publishing) that can “cut” through the competition, earning from article marketing tonight, 3 article spinners with submission automation, an rss submitter, a backlink boosting script, and some more stuff I’m embarrassed to include here.
It felt like quicksand. The more I struggle the more I sink to hopelessness and internet marketing destruction.
But just as I took my last breath and the quicksand went over my head, the professor gave a rescuing hand.
I haven’t purchased all of your products like the professor in the story but what few reports I have from you so far really cleared my mind about what’s happening in internet marketing.
Your simple, short, and straightforward reports are worth more than the $297 programs and $97 tools out there.

Hey Kurt,
I empathise completely with you. I possess more than one degree myself, and have never had a problem with academics.
Unlike you, though, I am a natural sceptic, and didn’t fall into the trap of buying product after product. The mistake I did make was actually believing that the people who sold these products actually knew what they are talking about.
It wasn’t until I started doing things my own way that I started having some measure of success. I then realised, that beneath all the hype, Internet Marketing (IM) is actually a very simple Business Model. If it is reduced to it’s simplest terms… virtually everybody will be able to succeed at it. However, that would also mean that the gurus would have to give up their fast cars, gorgeous girlfriends, and exotic holidays!
No prizes for guessing why IM has been made to appear more difficult than it actually is.
My advice to you, is to ignore the hype, go for the facts, and apply logic. You’ll be amazed at the progress you’ll make.
Good luck!

Thanks Oz, I really needed that=) I have a confession to make though, your reports helped me a lot with my internet marketing education (or re-education to be more precise). I already finished and mindmapped 3 of them (GVMC, Backlinking Blackbook, and SEOn Trial via the freebie offer you did). I was hoping to win the others via your contest. Regardless, any way you can hook me up with a discounted package for the others at least? Or a quid pro quo deal? I can do graphics=)

I had struggled for a long time before finding OZ and when I did it was like a slap in the face. My first report was the Q Factor report. Now I have to admit I bought it because it had a daft title, I mean who calls a report the Q Factor report. I mean I am not totally stupid I was aware of the bell curve; but what the hell had that to do with Internet marketing.
I laughed and laughed when I read it and utterly fell in love with Oz (Nothing personal Oz I am probably old enough to be your grandmother). The style of writing was superb, I mean if you have ever bought one you have to love or hate it and if you hate it then pops down to your local psychiatric unit. I digress I fell in love with the style of writing, but also the incisive brain behind it. This was not some pappy filler report it told it like it was and like Mary I respect evidence.
Now today I buy everything that Oz releases I do not look at the price or the title I just buy it. LOL he once bumped a WSO and I bought the damn thing twice. Talk about New York, New York so good they named it twice.
Thanks OZ for your style and getting me to work out a business plan and focus. I still have not made it big but I am getting there slowly and surely. After three years I have my fist Clickbank sale I had mastered Amazon but had not got the hang of Click bank.

With the passion you’ve got, you will definitely go a long way.
Funny enough, ClickBank is one area that I am not very interested in, and haven’t covered at all in any of my reports. It just proves, that once you get the basics right, you can apply them, with good success, to any Business Model.
Keep smiling,

Very eyeopening report.
Just wondering if you have conducted the following experiment, maybe they can be ideas for your future report.
1) Let say you have a Main Website and a Backlink
Backlink ==> Main Website
If you point thousands of links back to the Backlink,
it is suppose to pass link juice to Main Website
Two questions here:
a) What if Backlink got deindex, will the link juice still
be passed on to the Main Website?
b) What if Backlink is a nofollow, will link juice be
passed to Main Website?
Thanks,
Alan

Hey Alan,
Thanks for your comments.
I haven’t specifically conducted the experiment, however…
a) The main website should eventually lose the link juice, and although it won’t be explicitly penalised, it’s ranking will be adversely affected by the loss of link juice.
b) There have been loads of debates about this issue and I’m not that interested in it, because I think it’s a good idea to have both dofollow and nofollow links. It certainly isn’t natural if all your links are dofollow.
I hope what I just said makes sense.
Oz.

I stumbled across the internet marketing realm a little over a month ago, I believe because I had bought some fitness products on Clickbank and somehow later caught wind of IM. It hasn’t been that long but I have already spent some decent $$. I have been extremely frustrated at the time and money I have spent trying to even get noticed by google let alone having any success and “Making Money” as so many have promised with all the software I have bought over the years.
I am now encouraged to spend some time finishing all my half done web pages and learning how to back link them all and maybe making some money in the process

Very helpful info. The simplest seo also is to think like a searcher and ask the questions you would want answered first. I discussed this on my blog at http://www.whatsmyspin.com/seo-search-engine-optimization/forget-the-hat-just-produce-compelling-content/ because your keywords and your content act in concert.

I look forward to your information. I STILL haven’t made a dime just yet for all my efforts and “down the drain” money I couldn’t afford to waste. You are so right about all the hype of “blueprint” programs that are such crap and always forget the “missing link” of the real “how I did it” method. Like the people or jerks that have nothing to do but sit around and think of how to better spam, I think these gurus sit around and come up with the wildest ideas just to see if they can sell it and scam innocent people simply trying to pay the bills. I love it when they make videos on their so=called yachts with the umbrella drinks, stopping by to give their “suckers” an important message while they’re on vacation for the next month. Ya, know those “oh pulleassssse” moments that makes you want to shoot the screen because they’re on that vacation with your considerate donation to their scam program.
It will be refreshing to get some actual, useful content that sounds like it will actually work without spending our life savings on hundreds of programs. Thank you in advance. From what I’ve read here and one other pdf I have read so far, this means a lot. I am not greedy, but am trying to make a living out of nothing, keep my sanity, without compromising my self-set standards.

But it’s there in black an white. I’m fairly noob at IM and seo and I’ve spent too much on prducts that don’t deliver. although these days the only cash I shell out is on hosting and backlinking solutions.
I’m just about to start a backlinking campaing on an article – just gonna blast it and see how it goes.
Anywa, fantastic, eye-opening report. I know lots of people who bang on about content … but why?

Hi Oz,
Integrity of Purpose – that is what I was looking for when I dipped my toe in the not so clear waters of the Internet Business environment.
I am afraid like every new person it seems I was like the moth – attracted to bright objects that had no real substance.
I had come from the corporate world which is pretty structured when compared to the internet and I knew my way around. So on having a look around IM I was like a kid in a candy store but often the sweet that I chose had a different, unexpected and rather unsavoury taste.(but I have to say that 99.99% of the time I did get my refund)
I found some “solid” opportunities that were described as “Newbie Friendly” but on getting involved you would follow a path that led to a huge chasm with no apparent means of getting to the other side. S..t! On contacting the help desk you would recieve a cryptic (to me) message, often in condescending tones that in this analogy equated to being told to go and get a helicopter!!!
Bit by bit my perpective broadened, and I became a bit more street wise, but the bright shiney objects were still distractive with their message: Big Bucks, No Experience Required and No Work either!!!
I found integrity of purpose in a course run by a Chris Farrell which for a new, disorientated person to this strange environment was an oasis. He had been where I was so his site was like primary & secondary school and I could actually follow his lessons. So finally I got to understand both some of the technology involved but also the various mewthodologies for applying this technology.
I also realised that this was a primary and secondary education, and a tertiary education beckoned.
Now there are two words I have a dislike for in this industry and they are “Newbie” and “Guru”. The former is just personal opinion but the latter is misconceived. Instead of genuinely trying to educate, so many of the “Gurus” are playing a game of their own which is all about competition and who can out do who. In the process, those (us) lesser mortals who are trying to valiantly build a business to generate a cash flow, become the pawns in this game.(I fear Chris Farrell may have been picked off as a means to an end as part of this game)
The good news is I have found people such as yourself, who because of their self confidence and self respect have an original perspective and so introduce us to people of similar make up. You make us feel that we are buddies, part of a team, genuinely willing to help us for our sake. As they say “….there is no better exercise for the heart than to bend down and lift people up (They was Frank Lloyd Wrighjt).
OK that’s enough. Time frame nine months.
Cheers,
Mike FD

I too came from the corporate world, and was astonished by the disorder in IM.
Integrity, honesty, accountability, remorse, quality, value seem to be words that barely exist in the industry. Hopefully, more people will try to charta path that runs counter to the norm.
The only thing that 99% of Gurus have that you don’t have is a ‘brand name’!
I really appreciate your feedback.

I can really identify with Mary trouble is I have never been able to find the real Wizard of Oz so far they’ve all been imposters and they have cost me money.
[Reply]
Hello Oz
I’ve bought books on Internet Marketing for a decade and I’m still trying to make a living out of it. But this is because the Guru’s offered ‘instant’ success. And when I didn’t get it with their product I bought someone else’s, and so on. I realise now that I was drip-fed the idea that success can be instant for so long that I began to think that I wasn’t achieving success because I was stupid. And this kind of marketing continues today – because it sells. But I wonder how many of us buy again from someone who offered instant success. I know I don’t.
What I like about your approach is that you are still selling the possibility of success but without the hype. You don’t say vast wealth can be achieved in the next 24 hours. And this makes you more believable and, in my eyes, much more trustworthy. Therefore I’ll buy from you again.
I’ve just re-read your report on SEO and I can testify that a site without content can make Page 1 of Google. About a month ago I created a blog which contained about four lines of text (using the keyword which was also in the page title and the post title) and a supplier’s graphic with a link to the product – and I reached Page 1, number 3 on Google within 2 days. I also used OnlyWire to submit to 24 Social network sites on the day I created the blog. I did nothing more with it and I’ve no idea where it is on Google now.
Thanks for your insights. I look forward to more.
Best Wishes
Joe

I loved this report. The style was very entertaining but the content itself is what made my day.
It’s quite amazing that a site with no content can be indexed at all let alone get onto the first page. I understand the importance of backlinks, but that kind of blew me away.
When you mention the “content is king” mantra, I do have to point out that this is more important in the conversion phase. Content is what turns traffic into readers/subscribers/customers/whatever. But it obviously has little bearing on getting the traffic in the first place.
I’ve never taken on page seo to great lengths. I always felt that I need to write for my audience more than for search engines. A little seo tweaking is okay, but things like keyword density, etc. are things I don’t bother with. I am more careful with anchor text when linking though.

I agree with you. I've seen evidence of this. About a year or so ago, I sold one of my domain names (youshouldberich.com), which I was promoting for about a year before that. I was promoting it with one of those earn money keywords.
Lo and behold! I noticed that the site popped up at number 1 and number two (separate times of course) for a competitive keyword (which has 27,000,000 competing sites!) I was shocked, but here is what almost become the death blow! It had not content.!
I just checked that domain and it does not even have 200 inbound links according to yahoo…though I know that that's not the complete truth either. Doubtless to say, I was tempted to buy it back…but I restrained myself LOL!
Thanks for the report…now I know.

Hi Oz,
there is a bit or whole of Professor Mary in all of us. We all have to
start somewhere and we need to put our trust in some "guru".
Like me I am new in IM and am now in learning mode. So for
past 2-3 months I have been reading a lot of materials from
different sources.
Lucky for me I am not into hype, so I dont believe in one push
of a button and you will get thousands of hungry buyers rushing
at your site and wanting to buy everything you got – c`mon, please.
But people do believe that.
To tell you I very much like your style of writting and your experties.
And of course that you very much back everything up with some cold
hard evidence based on trial and error – research.
Enjoyed reading your report SEOn Trial…it was so obvious from the
start that backlinks could be the answer to that success of ranking
nmb 1 on first page of Google but I bet that no one really thought that
could be the case.
I am a bit hesitating because of all of that information I am confused and
dont know where to start but deep inside I know that I will too learn from
trial and error…but above all I would like to learn from someone like
you. To find out how could I find niche very fast, how to do keyword research (
my most needed this, i guess ), how to do SEO and how to monetize everything
and put everything together.
So I thank you for your reports and your wisdom. Keep up the good work and
feed us with knowledge.
I can`t wait to start putting all of it together and to start earning some money.
I am open for learning and I am prepared for hard work.
Where can we buy your reports …
Sincerely,
Denis

Hello Oz,
Unfortunalely I have been one of the many victims over the years to the Internet hype.
I am retired and living in the Philippines and also new York City. I was a former english teacher.
I can see from many of the comments that I am not alone in the struggle. I have narrowed
down my "GURU" list to about 5 people. ( including you ). Each of these people have developed an
outstanding software or offer something of true value. I can't count the money i have wasted over the last
8 years looking for that NON-existant magic pill.
When someone comes along that speaks with no forked tongue it's a breath of fresh air. SO HARD
TO FIND. I entered the internet mktg. business to augment my income as a retired person. Now with
your guidance i can look forward to some reality and hopefully make an extra income. I enjoy reading
your articles and info. The Truth always wins.

All of the product links go to the SEOn tool, are the others pending or was this a matter of the product pages under construction?
I need some help and after all of the great reviews I feel locked out of the Country Club.

Interesting post. I am starting to here familiar stories like this.
I've been doing internet marketing now for 2 years, and i can honestly say, if you want to succeed online then you must stop being a opportunitist, (ie stay away from get rich quick schems)
I'm very interested in getting a copy of this seo package.
Thanks

Your report was a breath of fresh air, really made things a lot clearer, thanks. Keep up the good work

Hello Oz,
I've only recently learned about your website. I've only read your SEO report. There's no doubt in my mind after reading the report and the comments on your blog that your real desire is to help others. Before I tell you my story I want to thank you for helping others.
My Story
My story is so convoluted that I honestly can't remember it all. I do know that I've been at this for about 3 years with only marginal results. I currently have 76 domains all which have content on them except 6. Some of the sites are on the first page of Google and more could be if I did more backlinking.
Quite frankly I'm tired. I haven't given up totally but I am quite exhausted of all the conflicting information that exists on the internet. I have spent tens of thousands of dollars on all sorts of products and courses. Most people have articulated my experience already so no real need to regurgitate the comments again.
What I have had some success with is Adsense and doing Product Reviews. I have over $2,000 sitting in my Adsense account that I've allowed to accumulate over time. I want to take some of that money and invest it in backlinking that is worth my time. I already get Joe Finn's backlinking but it takes time do it it all manually. I'd like to outsource that to someone but am not quite sure how to do it.
Of all the domains that I have 18 of them are Halloween sites so they're seasonal. Ten of the websites are producing all of the income and this is where I'd like to focus my backlinking efforts.
I'd appreciate if you might give me some quick suggestions on what you would do if you where me. If you suggest that I start by buying your reports and reading them I will do that.
Thanks

Hi Mike,
You certainly aren’t alone. Consider the money spent part of your tuition.

Well by the date on these comments [ mostly March 2010 - nothing in 2011] this site 'died' a long time ago !
Nothing happened in SEO since then ?????

Dear Oz-
Just a bit of constructive criticism from an anal writer. You keep using S's instead of Z's in word's like
specialize and realize. Otherwise keep up the good work.
Peace and Love

Lol! Those are actually the correct spellings as used by the country that gave the world the English language.
I do try to Americanize my English, since my largest audience is in America, but looks like some slipped through
the gap.
I live in the UK, and know at least one brilliant UK-based vendor who insists on using ‘correct’ English.
Thanks for the feedback, anyway & do have a fab day!
Oz.

Whatever next, a Mary, a Bary and a Wizard; thought I fell asleep and woke up in the middle of a Tolkien novel, or was it CS Lewis. Must try to avoid the cheese before I go to bed, mother warned me about the night terrors. Think I'll stick to the mushrooms, on second thoughts………… a glass of milk perhaps.

Your email in my morning mailbox brightened my day. Certainly different from some of the crap that comes from IM Guru's affiliates. Loved your retort on the "S" v "Z" question:) Being a Kiwi on the opposite side of the world to you I share your enthusiasm for Americanised language bastardisations.
Interestingly the very next email after your was http://safe-site-link.com/11 yet another WSO offering.
As a newcomer to IM the names of most of the authors of those "bells & whistles" zero to a million bucks overnight things are familiar but being an older 'baby boomer' with a token of wisdom gained through the years I know the meaning of '''if it sounds too good to be true it usually is''' plus of course everyone who has graduated passed fairy tale land should know there are No Magic Beans!
Look fwd to seeing the follow up to your "This The Most Important Email That I've EVER Sent You?" email since it is the first I have ever received from you.
Cheers, JR

Bary..quick question. I can get an original copyscape article but when we turn that article into 40 other articles (if i understand your software) will those be able to pass as original also. I just got aboard and will be learning and will write later an encouraging comment,
